We are now off and running into the new racing season and right in the middle of the Spring Carnival in Melbourne. Queensland trainers are certainly making their presence felt with horses like SHOOTOUT, BUFFERING, CELTIC DANCER, MILITARY ROSE, RINGA RINGA ROSIE and WOORIM to name just a few, all keeping the southerners honest.
With the recent retirement of Wayne Wilson from race calling, we are very honoured to be able to utilise Wayne’s knowledge and experience in implementing an award, called the Wayne Wilson Medal. The medal will be awarded to a Queensland Trainer at a special ceremony each year. More details on the criteria will be announced at the ATA Queensland Branch AGM where Wayne will be present.
We would like to take this opportunity to invite all existing members, and any other Trainers who want to be involved in the future, to attend our Annual General Meeting on Thursday 14th October at 2pm. The venue is the Hamilton Hotel which has recently come on board to support us. Drinks and food will be provided once the business has been attended to which should be a good opportunity for trainers to get together both to discuss important issues and some social networking.
An issue that is raising interest at the moment revolves around owners and the way our clubs are treating them on race-days. There are always two sides and we at the ATA just want to ensure that our trainer’s views and positions are considered. We will be having discussions with both the QROA and the various race clubs and should be able to report more on this next month.
