Firstly let us acknowledge the fine training effort by young Toowoomba trainer Tony Gollan and his star sprinter Temple of Boom winning the Group 3 Aurie Star Handicap at Flemington. Not only is Tony doing a great job with his horses of late, he has taken a very active interest in the future of training in Qld and is a very welcome recently appointed member of our ATA committee.
Another positive story is the payment the ATA has just this month paid out to injured Toowoomba Trainer Michael Flannigan. As one of the many benefits of being in the ATA, this type of insurance is included in your annual membership fee and is just another reason for being a member.
ATA QLD BRANCH MEETING / AGM
Our next quarterly ATA meeting, which will also be our AGM, will be held on Thursday 8th September at the Hamilton Hotel at 10.30am.
We encourage all members to attend, and as usual we will be covering many of the major issues currently facing our industry. The meeting will conclude with the announcement and presentation of the inaugural Wayne Wilson Medal. Please let our co-ordinator Cameron Partington know of your attendance to assist with catering and organisation.
AMBASSADOR TRAVEL RACETREE WAYNE WILSON MEDAL
The Ambassador Travel Racetree Wayne Wilson Medal has been won for the month of July by Toowoomba trainer John Dann. John trained a winning metropolitan double at Eagle Farm with Chandra and Tea Tattle on July 23rd.
With a small team of only four horses based at Westbrook this exciting city double followed a winning double in Rockhampton in June. Chandra ran a track record in Rockhampton before a class record at Eagle Farm. The 4yo son of Easy Rocking looks to have a very bright future ahead as he has a well deserved spell before aiming at some better races in the summer. Chandra is named after the famous snake charmer due to when he was a foal he spent ten days in Oakey Vet hospital recovering from a brown snake bite.
John shares the ownership of his horses with his family and friends and spends the rest of his days after track-work running his business Toowoomba Truck Spares.
The 12 monthly winners will now be in the running for the inaugural Wayne Wilson Medal for the 2010-11 racing season which will be presented at our next meeting on Thursday September 8th at the Hamilton Hotel. The Medal is proudly promoted by the ATA and sponsored by Ambassador Travel and Racetree, with the winner receiving an all inclusive trip for two to the 2011 Cox Plate along with of course, the Wayne Wilson Medal. Thanks once again to our sponsors www.ambassadortravel.com.au and www.racetree.com.au
