ATA Queensland Branch – Members Update / Queensland / 08 Dec, 2011

The calendar year has ticked over once more but our racing season is just warming up. We hope everyone has had a safe and enjoyable Christmas, and maybe Santa Claus has left a few nice horses under the tree for our Queensland Trainers. There is plenty of exciting racing coming up with the Magic Millions this month and as usual plenty of quality racing throughout the State.

Our next meeting for trainers will be in late January and we will be to have the current racing minister in attendance to discuss our industry matters. This is in response to having the shadow racing minister at our last meeting. As usual we will be addressing many issues and doing what we can do to improve the ongoing problems and concerns facing Queensland Trainers. The meeting will be at the Hamilton Hotel and the date will be advised when confirmed.

The 2012 Ambassador Travel Racetree Wayne Wilson Medal has been won for the month of November by Jason McLachan for his win at Flemington on Melbourne Cup Day with FACILE TIGRE.

This 5 year old son of Catbird has now won $340,000 with six wins from just fourteen starts.

Jason took the horse to Melbourne early in the spring and was only beaten in a photo first-up at Caulfield. He then won his next start at Caulfield before the fantastic win in the Listed (G4) Always Welcome Stakes. FACILE TIGRE always showed plenty of ability and promise as a youngster, prompting Jason’s late father Bruce saying that this horse would go places. He will have a well deserved spell now and be set for the riches of our Winter Carnival.

The 12 monthly winners will be in the running for the 2012 Wayne Wilson Medal. The Medal is proudly promoted by the ATA and sponsored by Ambassador Travel and Racetree, with the winner receiving an all inclusive trip for two to the 2012 Cox Plate along with of course, the Wayne Wilson Medal. Thanks once again to our sponsors and
