ATA Queensland Branch – Members Update / Queensland / 09 Jul, 2012

The Winter Carnival is over, and our 2011-12 season is coming to an end. The new regime at Racing Queensland has already made some significant progress in resurrecting our industry. The challenge for them is to ensure the changes that are made consider the positions of all industry participants. In respect of our Trainers, they are spread across our state, and vary so much in operational size that not every decision is going to prove equitable and beneficial to all. Our role at the ATA is to work with Racing Queensland to ensure the best outcome for all trainers is achieved.

With plenty of activity at the Sunshine Coast lately, a meeting has been arranged with the local trainers and the Chairman Mr Kevin Dixon on Thursday July 19th at 10am at the SCTC. This will give our members who can’t make it to Brisbane for our quarterly meetings the opportunity to be involved and have their say, particularly as the focus will be on local issues. The outcomes of the meeting will be in next month’s report, and we hope to have a similar meeting on the Gold Coast in the coming months.

2012 AMBASSADOR TRAVEL RACETREE WAYNE WILSON MEDAL

The 2012 Ambassador Travel Racetree Wayne Wilson Medal has been won for the month of June by Kelso Wood with his very impressive 2yo SIZZLING.

The colt by Snitzel made it four in a row with victory in the Group One T.J Smith at Eagle Farm. SIZZLING has now won 5 races from 8 starts and amassed almost $800,000 in prize-money. SIZZLING went for a well deserved spell and is being set for races during the Spring Carnival in Melbourne and no doubt will be looking towards the 3yo Magic Millions race at the Gold Coast In January.

The 12 monthly winners will be in the running for the 2012 Wayne Wilson Medal. The Medal is proudly promoted by the ATA and sponsored by Ambassador Travel and Racetree, with the winner receiving an all inclusive trip for two to the 2012 Cox Plate along with of course, the Wayne Wilson Medal.
