ATA Queensland Branch – Members Update / Queensland / 11 Jun, 2013

The new RQ Board has had their first meeting and it will be very interesting to hear the outcomes and what plans are in place for the future of our industry. Having the Board represented at our ATA meeting is integral for both the ATA to know what is happening and also for the Board to know what concerns our trainers are facing. We look forward to working very closely with Board Member Michael Kelly in particular. The outcomes of our next Quarterly Meeting and also the ATA/RQ Forum will be in our next report.

It was pleasing to see the recent story on John Tapp’s Inside Racing featuring our own Alan Bailey. Alan is a very active member of the ATA and having his involvement in racing highlighted is a fantastic credit to Alan and the many years of hard work in the industry. Announcing his retirement at the end of this season brings to an end a marvellous career and we wish Alan and his wife June all the best with travelling and spending time with their five grandchildren.

The 2013 Wayne Wilson Medal has been won for the month of May by Noel Doyle and his promising 2yo LE VAL.

Purchased at the MM Sales for $110,000, the gelding by Snitzel has already returned $75,000 in just 3 starts, after winning the Ken Russell Memorial Classic at the Gold Coast which kicked off the Winter Carnival, at just his 2nd race start.

The owners of LE VAL, the Anderson family, have been fantastic supporters of Noels for over 20 years, racing other stable stars such as Spearman and Biggles.

Unfortunately at his next start, the Group 2 BRC Sires Produce, LE VAL suffered what could be a career ending injury of a fractured pelvis. Noel is hopeful he can get Le Val back to racing after giving him a good 6 months in the paddock.

The twelve monthly winners will be in the running for the 2013 Ambassador Travel Wimmers Soft Drinks Wayne Wilson Medal. We have just 2 months to go (June & July) before we will determine who will be this year’s winner.
