ATA Queensland Branch – Members Update / Queensland / 11 Jun, 2015

Whilst we are in the middle of sweeping changes in the management of our industry, it's a shame that politics once again decide the destiny of many good people whose heart and soul bleed horse racing. Why would someone like Thoroughbred Board member Mike Kelly be removed out of a role he has already put so much into, and with the knowledge and networks gained be so well positioned to represent and support our industry into the future.

At the ATA, we are not in a position to comment on any of the other changes, but after having such a close and positive working relationship with Mike it is extremely disappointing to see how he has been treated.

The ATA met with the new Minister for Racing earlier in the month with Barry Baldwin, Dan Meagher, Les Ross, Brian Wakefield, Tony Gollan, Rob Heathcote, Kelly Schweida & Cameron Partington having half an hour to discuss the current situation and future plans etc for racing under the new government.

There was no breaking news announced, but fair to say we were advised that significant changes in the structure of racing in Qld were expected.

We found the Minister to be very measured and analytical in his approach - relying more on facts and evidence than on persuasion or political motivation. The meeting was successful in making the Minister aware of who we are, and opening a solid communication channel with us moving forward.

We now await the appointments of the new Board to see what structure will be in place for the future. Our next meeting which was due for June has been put back to July to allow us to be able to meet with new members of the Board once they are announced.

Communication is very important to the ATA , and here in Qld we do our best to ensure information is passed on as often as possible. Cameron sends regular emails and SMS with latest news and issues, if you are currently not receiving these emails or SMS please make us aware by contacting Cameron at the email or phone below.

REAL GOOD is owned by long term clients of Trevor's and he will have a couple more runs this preparation before coming back for the quality 3yo races next season.
