ATA Queensland Branch – Members Update / Queensland / 12 Dec, 2012

With Christmas upon us, and now half way through the racing season, we look forward to the Magic Millions Carnival on the Gold Coast.

The ongoing changes that are happening to the administration of racing in Queensland are continuing, and we at the A.T.A are pleased that we have been involved in the majority of the decisions being made. The positions on the new Board will be determined by early 2013, and the A.T.A will be discussing prospects at our next meeting as to who we will be offering our support. The next meeting will be on Thursday the 24th January.

The loss of leading jockey Scott Galloway’s son Charlie was a tragic reminder to just how cruel life can be, and we pass on our deepest sympathies to Scott and his family.

The first meeting of the working group organised by Racing Queensland to re-invigorate the current training system that brings through our apprentices occurred last month. The ATA was represented by Pat Duff, Col Williamson, Liam Birchley, Cameron Partington and Alan Russell. It was very clear from the start of the meeting that significant change was required. More details on the progress being made after the December meeting will be in next month’s report.

2013 WAYNE WILSON MEDAL

The 2013 Wayne Wilson Medal has been won for the month of November by Donald Baker for his 2 wins at Eagle Farm with JET STYLE.

The 6yo son of Tycoon Ruler has now had 9 wins and amassed over $230,000. This preparation, in 11 starts the horse has had 5 wins and only 3 times been out of the placings. Both wins were at Eagle Farm and in Listed Races over the mile and for a $3000 purchase the owners certainly have got their monies worth.

The 12 monthly winners will be in the running for the 2013 Wayne Wilson Medal.
