ATA Queensland Branch – Members Update / Queensland / 21 Feb, 2011

With the Wednesday acceptance trial now in full swing it will be interesting to see the feedback on the impact to our trainers - both positive and negative.

With the main purpose being to increase pre-post betting it will also be interesting to see the changes in that area. In agreeing to the trial, we at the ATA did so on the proviso that we would be provided with a detailed plan on the processes being undertaken by Racing Queensland to significantly increase prize-money levels across the state.

We hope to be able to bring you the outcome of this, along with other industry information at our next meeting, which will be held at the Hamilton Hotel on Thursday 10th March commencing at 11.30am. There has been plenty happening in the last few months and the only way we can look at addressing anything as a group is by being a group. One of the major strengths we have is in our numbers and seeing as many of you at the next meeting as possible will only enhance our position. As usual refreshments will be served during the afternoon and we will be inviting Racing Queensland and other industry participants to attend later in the meeting to discuss a variety of topics.

AMBASSADOR TRAVEL RACETREE WAYNE WILSON MEDAL

The Ambassador Travel Racetree Wayne Wilson Medal has been won for the month of January by Tony Gollan with his classy sprinter TEMPLE OF BOOM winning the Magic Millions Sprint at the Gold Coast. This follows on from his win with the horse at Flemington on Oaks day and in his last eight starts he has had four wins, two seconds and one third taking his total prize-money to nearly $600,000 from just 17 starts. Tony has 38 horses in work based at Westbrook’s Bahram Stud Training centre on the outskirts of Toowoomba and is certainly one of the most promising young trainers in Queensland.

The 12 monthly winners will be in the running to win the inaugural Wayne Wilson Medal for the 2010-11 racing season. The Medal is proudly promoted by the ATA and sponsored by Ambassador Travel and Racetree, with the winner at the end of the racing season receiving an all inclusive trip for two to the 2011 Cox Plate along with a magnificent perpetual trophy, and of course the Wayne Wilson Medal. Thanks once again to our sponsors www.ambassadortravel.com.au and www.racetree.com.au
