ATA South Australian Branch – Members Update / South Australia / 18 Oct, 2012

The Annual General Meeting of the ATA SA Branch was held on Tuesday 28 August. Popular Goolwa trainer David Jolly has joined the Committee of the SA Branch. Jolly replaces David Balfour who retired at the end of last season.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank David Balfour for his work as a committee member and President of the SA branch over the last twelve years. David was an energetic and dedicated President who did much to help the branch and I’m sure his fellow trainers will join me in wishing him all the best.

The Association was disappointed with the way the track at Balaklava was presented for racing on Wednesday 3rd October 2012. Clubs must be diligent in their preparation of tracks and must avoid lightning fast and hard surfaces which can cause jarring up and possible injury to horses.

The SA Branch raised the issue with TRSA and subsequently received communication from Chairman of Steward Graham Loch, stating that the Balaklava Racing Club experienced a week of high winds leading up to the meeting preventing them from proper irrigation of the track therefore effecting their preparation of the racing surface.
