Congratulations Bart, Kav and Mike / National / 06 Nov, 2009

At a time when racing needs the headlines and for all the right reasons, master trainer Bart Cummings did not disappoint. Bart’s tally of four Group One wins during the spring racing carnival took his tally to an amazing 257 Group Ones wins during his celebrated career, which fittingly elevated him to legend status among Australia’s sporting greats.

Faint Perfume’s Oaks triumph on top of Allez Wonder’s Toorak victory, So You Think’s Cox Plate triumph and Viewed’s Caulfield Cup win, made it nine VRC Oaks wins for the legendary horseman, who has rewritten racing history.

Amazingly Faint Perfume’s Oaks win gave the 81 year old his 81st Group One success at Flemington. Does it get any better than that?

Congratulations are also in order to Mark Kavanagh for his first Melbourne Cup win with Shocking. The euphoric scenes which followed Shocking’s win captured what horse racing is all about and how much it means to a racehorse trainer to win our iconic race.

Mike Moroney also deserves to be congratulated for the VRC Derby win of Monaco Consul, who had not raced since winning the Spring Champion Stakes in early October.
