Tasracing has announced the appointment of former RVL chief steward Des Gleeson as acting Chief Racing Officer.
Des Gleeson has earned a reputation as one of the best racing administrator/stewards in Australasia and his appointment, albeit temporary (one month), is seen as something of a coup for the Tasmanian racing industry.
Mr Gleeson will work with code managers Rex Colless (thoroughbreds), Kevin Neilson (harness) and Peter Wesley (greyhounds) to help progress any policy or rule changes and he also will oversee the development and maintenance of the track management program.
Victorian-based turf expert Neil Gardner also has been employed to work with track managers and staff on the development of the state’s race tracks and training complexes.
Mr Gardner will take on his role on Thursday (August 27).
