Racing Victoria has advised that effective 1 December 2011, Unraced Horses will no longer be eligible to run in 0-58 ratings races in Victoria.
The decision to amend the eligibility conditions was made following consultation between Racing Victoria and the Australian Trainers Association and acknowledges there are ample opportunities for unraced horses to run in Maiden races in Victoria, where they receive preference in the ballot.
Maiden horses that have started in a race may be entered for a 0-58 if they are assigned a rating of 58 or less by the Racing Victoria Handicapping Panel.
Trainers are advised Unraced Horses will continue to be eligible for 0-62 ratings races, where they will be assigned the same weight as a raced horse, of the same age and sex, rated 61.
