As we approach the festive season, and to assist in the smooth operation of your business during this period, we wish to inform Members of the upcoming public holidays and related requirements to comply with Award conditions.
The Public Holidays listed for this period are as follows :
Christmas Day Friday, December 25, 2009
Boxing Day* Monday, 28 December, 2009
New Years Day Friday, January 1, 2010
* Please note that in Victoria (only), Saturday 26 December is a Public Holiday and there is an additional Public Holiday on Monday 28 December 2009. Any full/part time employee will be entitled to both these days as public holidays.
Simply stated, Full time or Part time staff performing work on a public holiday, must be paid at double time OR ordinary time plus a day off in lieu as mutually agreed to. Casual staff are entitled to their normal rate of pay only.
To comply with Award obligations you are required to ensure that staff receive payment of wages one day prior to a public holiday.
