Dear Member,
Our national update last week advised of new Guidance Notes the Australian Trainers’ Association (ATA) had drawn up on this subject. These Notes, designed for members to use as a simple reference guide on the subject, can be accessed by visiting the ATA web site.
At the same time, we wanted to make Victorian members aware that Racing Victoria (RV) advised the ATA recently that they had increased their own policing around the trainers’ activity in this area.
Specifically, RV has been reviewing various sales mediums, including sales literature and websites. The RV syndication personnel have also, and will continue to, increase their level of one-on-one engagement with trainers over coming months. The intent here is to not only identify and address any law and rule breaches, but to better educate trainers on the subject DO’s and DON’T’s as necessary.
RV recently produced an article on this subject for the Inside Racing April 2017 publication. CLICK HERE to access the RV article.
So why the increased focus?
Firstly, a number of syndicators are asking that RV adopt a more pro-active policing role here. Secondly, as industry lead regulator, RV must ensure they are effective in the eyes of ASIC, the overarching body responsible for administering the federal law in this area. Collectively, this has led to RV embarking on this current heightened education and awareness campaign.
