Racing Victoria and Australian Trainers’ Association Launch Trainers’ Wellbeing Program / Victoria / 19 Aug, 2014

At the inaugural Trainers’ Open Day yesterday, Racing Victoria (RV) and the Australian Trainers’ Association (ATA) launched a Trainer Wellbeing Program to support industry participants.

As a part of the partnership, the ATA and RV will hold a series of pilot workshops this September to address the wellbeing needs of trainers and stable employees.

The pilot program will shape the long-term plan for the Trainer Wellbeing Program where ATA and RV will enlist independent experts to address a range of areas on health and wellbeing including physical health, exercise and nutrition; stress and fatigue; and effective business management.

The pilot program will focus on mental health with the ATA and RV engaging beyondblue to provide industry participants a unique opportunity to share experiences and obtain expert information on mental health.

The Trainer Wellbeing Program aligns with RV and ATA’s ongoing commitment to the welfare of the thoroughbred racing industry’s participants to maintain a sustainable future for the sport.

To ensure trainers, stable employees and their families from across Victoria can participate in the pilot program, the workshops will be held in four different locations:

> Bendigo Racecourse - Friday, 12 September from 10.00am - 11.30am

> Flemington Racecourse - Monday, 15 September from 10.00am - 11.30am

> Ballarat Racecourse - Thursday, 18 September from 10.00am - 11.30am

> Cranbourne Racecourse - Friday, 19 September from 10.00am - 11.30am

The feedback obtained during the pilot program will be assessed independently by beyondblue to form part of a long-term plan for the Trainer Wellbeing Program.

We will be in touch in the coming weeks to invite trainers, stable employees and their families to the pilot workshops to learn more about how to support a friend, a colleague or a family member with the challenges they may be facing in a supportive, safe and confidential environment.
