Emirates Melbourne Cup: Tabcorp 2014

Almost $132 million was wagered on today’s 10-race Melbourne Cup meeting at Flemington across the Tabcorp-owned NSW and Victorian TABs. From this, revenues were $25 million, up 12.4%.

The 2014 Melbourne Cup was won by the Andreas Wohler-trained Protectionist which paid $8.20 for the Win on the NSW totalizator and $8.60 for the Win on SuperTAB (incorporating the Victorian and ACT totalizator). Protectionist started at $8.50 with TAB Fixed Odds.

There was $86.9 million in turnover on the Melbourne Cup race, down 3.7% on 2013, and made up of:

$46.2 million in NSW totalizator betting;
$31.4 million in Victorian totalizator betting;
$9.3 million in TAB Fixed Odds betting.
These figures exclude turnover from Tabcorp’s Luxbet business and its international gateway, PGI.

In addition, there was $2.4 million in ACTTAB betting on the Melbourne Cup meeting. ACTTAB became part of the Tabcorp group in October this year.

Tabcorp Managing Director and CEO David Attenborough said the iconic TAB brand was once again a trusted part of the Melbourne Cup day experience for hundreds of thousands of customers.

“TAB is pleased to have facilitated another outstanding Melbourne Cup day across our multi-channel network,” Mr Attenborough said.

“TAB customers today placed their Melbourne Cup bets across almost 3,000 TAB outlets in NSW, the ACT and Victoria, as well as via tab.com.au, the TAB app and our call centre. On-course betting was also a big part of the day, especially at Flemington where 600 operators were taking bets.

“At peak, our systems were processing a record 3019 transactions per second.”
