VALE DAVID G. BALFOUR / National / 17 Oct, 2014

The Australian Trainers' Association Federal Executive is deeply saddened by the passing of highly respected South Australian trainer, former member of the ATA Federal Executive and former President of the ATA South Australian Branch, David Balfour.

David, a former successful jockey, took out a Trainers Licence and had some great success training overseas in Malaysia and Singapore.

Some of David’s career highlights include NOT RELATED winning the VRC Sires Produce, BEAU GEORGE (G1 Goodwood HCP), TAKE THE ROAD (G2 Hobartville Stakes), RIGHT FONG (Listed Melbourne Cup Day Plate & Listed Port Adelaide Cup) and RIVERS LANE (Listed Birthday Cup) to name a few.

In 2012, David and son Ryan formed a training partnership and proved a powerful combination up until David’s recent retirement at the end of the 13/14 racing season, with their last runner in partnership a winner.

In appreciation of his loyal services, contribution and valued support through his long standing Membership of the ATA, along with recognition of his successful and distinguished career as a racehorse trainer, David was honoured with Life Membership of the Association.

Our sincerest condolences are extended to the Balfour family and David's many friends in racing.
