The Australian Trainers' Association (ATA) Federal Executive and Victorian Branch Committee are deeply saddened by the passing of highly respected legendary Wodonga trainer, Ollie Cox.
A true gentleman of the turf, Cox was widely recognised as a successful jockey and trainer during a career that spanned more than 50 years.
A former amateur jockey who rode successfully for 12 years in the Wodonga-Albury districts, Cox took out a trainers’ licence in 1959 and tasted success with popular horses including BURMUNGA and Wodonga Cup winners FAIR FIONA and MAGIC COURT.
The winners flowed until his 1999 retirement with the likes of Kilmore Cup hero NORTHERN POET, multiple city winner ERNESTO and regular country Cups winner BABY BOOMER.
In appreciation of his valued support through his long standing Membership of the ATA, along with recognition of his successful and distinguished career as a racehorse trainer, Ollie was honoured with Life Membership of the Association.
Our sincerest condolences are extended to Ollie’s son Brian, the extended Cox family and his many friends in racing.
